About the Western United States...
The Western U.S.A. offers an abundant supply of the finest foods in the world. From delectable fresh fruits, nuts and vegetables to exotic specialty foods, healthy beverages, and fresh seafood; this region has it all. And the region boasts sophisticated food processing facilities which are crucial in serving our export customers.
The Western United States Agricultural Trade Association (WUSATA) assists foreign buyers in locating and promoting food and beverages from its 13 member states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. This region harvests more than one-quarter of the farm products in the U.S.A.
This diverse region spans from the pristine state of Alaska, famous for its ocean-fresh seafood — to Hawaii — home of the Maui onion, fresh papaya, and robust coffee beans. In the desert states of Arizona and New Mexico, buyers can find such products as pecan nuts and spicy
chiles. The Rocky Mountain states offer fine beef, potatoes, onions, and corn — all processed to buyers’ specifications. And the West Coast states of California, Oregon and Washington offer an array of fresh fruits and vegetables, Pacific Ocean seafood, processed foods (canned, frozen and dehydrated), juices and other beverages, and much more. We are proud that our food industry is often a trend-setter for the rest of the nation and other developed markets around the world. In recent years, foreign buyers have been especially interested in our healthy, natural and organic foods; Tex-Mex products; food ingredients (such as nuts and dried fruits); breakfast cereals and dry mixes; snack foods, frozen seafood; and other high-quality food products.
So if you are eager to find new food and beverage products from the Western U.S.A., contact WUSATA today!
Industry Programs
WUSATA conducts industry-wide projects managed by our staff and marketing specialists from member State Departments of Agriculture. These projects benefit two or more companies, or a commodity that is not represented by another similar association (for example Meat Export Federation). Under this program, WUSATA conducts trade missions, trade shows, in-store promotions, technical seminars, and menu (restaurant) promotions. Complete the attached form, or visit our web site for more information on these programs.
Company Matching Funds
WUSATA offers a matching funds program to small U.S. companies in the region. With this program, qualified companies receive up to 50% reimbursement for the costs of promoting their branded food products overseas. Once approved, a company may claim reimbursement for half of their eligible promotional expenses such as booth rental at
trade exhibits, travel to international trade shows, product demonstrations, product information (leaflets, brochures), advertising, and more.
Sampling of Activities
- Technical seminars to educate and inform foreign buyers about U.S. product characteristics, uses, availability, and handling.
- In-store and menu promotions targeting consumers in foreign retail and food service outlets.
- Trade missions where exporters from the region travel abroad to meet with prospective distributors, wholesalers, retailers, and government officials.
- Reverse trade missions where foreign buyers come to the U.S.A. to see products and meet with potential suppliers.
- International trade shows where quality products from our region are displayed in targeted markets.
- Supplier directories are available from many of our member State Departments of Agriculture.
- In-country representatives work for WUSATA in a number of key markets (Japan, SE Asia, Europe, etc.). FAS also has Agricultural Trade Offices in various country markets who are ready to assist foreign buyers.
Market Access Program (MAP)
The Market Access Program (MAP) is administered by the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service
(FAS). WUSATA is one of more than 70 trade organizations that receives this funding from
FAS. The MAP is designed to encourage the development, maintenance, and expansion of commercial export markets for U.S. agricultural commodities and products. WUSATA manages both industry-wide market development projects and a matching funds program for promotion of an individual firm’s brand-name products. Hundreds of companies are poised and ready to promote their products in overseas markets!
