The seafood industry is on the rise, with the global market projected to reach $676.20 billion in 2024, growing annually by 6.54% over the next four years. In Urk, Netherlands, this sector is thriving, boasting annual sales of $2.68 billion. Known for its seafood processing, innovation, sustainable practices, and continuous development of new products and techniques, this region is marked for growth.
To sustain this growth, a reliable supply of raw products is essential. The U.S. West Coast, abundant in groundfish, and is perfectly positioned to meet the needs of processors in Urk and its neighboring regions. To foster this collaboration, an in-bound mission to Oregon and Washington has been initiated. This initiative began in 2023 with an introductory meeting with URK processors in the Netherlands and continued with a productive working breakfast meeting in Barcelona during the 2024 Seafood Expo Global Trade Show.
