Emeritus Vineyards, of Sebastopol, California, embarked on a journey of international success when they became a participant of the Western United States Agricultural Trade Association (WUSATA) in 2021. The turning point in their global endeavors came when they joined the Branded Program, funded by the USDA's Market Access Program.
In their inaugural year with the Branded Program, Emeritus Vineyards experienced multiple opportunities to participate in international trade events. These were events that were previously beyond their budgetary reach. Notably, they made a significant impact at ProWein International Trade Fair for Wines and Spirits. Under the leadership of Mari Jones, the President of Emeritus Vineyards, the company secured a substantial order from a first-time market - Norway. This single order propelled Norway to become their largest export market. With the Branded program, their total costs to attend this show were cut in half, making their return on investment 7.5:1.
The boost in sales and amplified international efforts necessitated the expansion of a part-time position into a full-time role. This position now plays a pivotal role in supporting international partners and activities while also effectively managing WUSATA programs. Mari Jones emphasizes the critical role played by the WUSATA Branded program in their journey to international successes. Without it, they would have been unable to afford international travel and participation in key trade shows that have contributed to their expansion into new markets and the subsequent increase in sales.
